We hear the word supercomputers a lot … And we always think about science fiction matters!! But what are supercompters? Why do we build them? How do they differ from Data Centers? How will they evolve and affect our lives even when we don’t realize it? This will be the subject of our talk.

كثيرًا ما نسمع كلمة “الحواسيب الفائقة”، ودائمًا ما نفكر في مسائل الخيال العلمي. ولكن ما هي الحواسيب الفائقة؟ لماذا نقوم ببنائها؟ وكيف تختلف عن مراكز البيانات؟ وكيف ستتطور وتؤثر على حيواتنا حتى ولو لم ندرك ذلك؟

هذا سيكون موضوع محاضرتنا.

Mohamed Zahran received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Maryland at College Park in 2003. He is currently a faculty member with the Computer Science Department at NYU. His research interest spans several aspects of computer architecture, such as architecture of heterogeneous systems, hardware/software interaction, and biologically-inspired architectures. Zahran is a senior member of IEEE, senior member of ACM, and Sigma Xi scientific honor society. He writes a weekly column at Shorouk Newspaper about History of Science and subjects related to scientific community.

د. محمد زهران، عضو هيئة التدريس بجامعة نيويورك. حصل على درجة الدكتوراه في تخصص الهندسة الكهربائية وهندسة الحاسب من جامعة ميريلاند الأمريكية، وله العديد من الأبحاث العلمية المنشورة فى الدوريات والمؤتمرات الدولية. يدور اهتمامه البحثي حول جوانب عديدة من معمار الحاسبات، مثل معمار النظم غير المتجانسة والتفاعل بين الأجهزة والبرمجيات والمعمار المستلهم من علم الأحياء. وبالإضافة إلى الأبحاث والتدريس، له اهتمامات عديدة بتاريخ وفلسفة العلوم ويرى أنها من دعائم البحث العلمى، كما يستمتع جدًا بوجوده وسط طلابه فى قاعات المحاضرات ومعامل الأبحاث والمؤتمرات، أمله أن يرى الثقافة والمعرفة من أساسيات الحياة فى مصر.
وله مقال أسبوعي فى جريدة الشروق عن تاريخ العلوم والمجتمع العلمي وهو عضو في IEEE وAssociation for Computing Machinery وSigma Xi scientific honor society.
