FAQ

1. What is the Egypt Scholars institution?
It is a non-profit organization that relies on the efforts of Egyptian researchers and volunteers to provide various services to the scientific community and researchers. The organization also introduces the Egypt Scholars Lab, which focuses on training new researchers and promoting research in Egypt as well as the Arab world.
2. What is Egypt Scholars Labs?
Egypt Scholars Labs is an interactive course to achieve excellence in scientific research by creating a positive and stimulating environment that nourishes the potential of young people and encourages the exchange of knowledge, skills as well as resources.
3. What is the difference between the basic Lab and the advanced Lab?
The Egypt Scholars Lab is divided into two stages:

  • The basic Lab: which is 3 months long, where students learn the basics of scientific research theoretically. Students are evaluated through a series of required assignments and submissions. At the end of the lab, there is a final evaluation, based on which, students are either qualified for the advanced Lab or stop at the basic Lab.
  • The advanced Lab: which is also 3 months long, where the qualified students are divided into small groups, with each group having a mentor from the Lab volunteers. During this time, students apply what they learned in the basic Lab in a simulated real-life research environment, and at the end, students and mentors may be able to write and publish a research paper or may only complete the Lab period.
4. Is the application for the Lab available annually?
Yes, the application for the Lab is available annually.
5. Are there fees for participating in the Lab?
No, the Lab is a completely free service, and all its events are supervised by Egyptian volunteer researchers.
6. How to join the Lab, admission requirements, and acceptance as well as rejection criteria?
To join the Lab, you must fill out an application form, answer its questions well in the right language, and attach a CV, through which we can learn more about the person’s research interests, reasons and motivations for joining the Lab, and how much the applicant see the Lab’s potential to guide and help him achieve his goal.
7. Is the Lab limited to certain governorates or certain countries only?
No, the Lab is a 100% online service and is available to all Arabic speakers.
8. Does the Lab require offline attendance?
No, the Lab’s content is available online and includes both pre-recorded lectures and live meetings.
9. Does joining the Lab necessarily mean contributing to real scientific research and scientific publication in the end?
The goal of the Lab is to learn the basics of conducting scientific research, and publication depends on the students themselves. Some of the Lab’s graduate students have already published research papers in respectful scientific journals after completing the Lab.
10. Does the Lab provide practical experimentation or lab-related research?
No, since the Lab and its materials are completely online, there is no possibility of practical application, and also since most of the volunteer researchers are currently outside of Egypt. However, practical application is possible in some fields such as computer science and program design or other things that do not require a Lab, unlike other fields such as chemistry and medicine that require Lab experiments are not available. A few cases that have published research are due to the limited time of the Lab, and because the main goal of the Lab is not publication or result, but rather learning how to reach that result, whether now or later. Therefore, it is not necessary to join a group that suits your research interests or field of passion 100%, you may join a research title completely unrelated to your field, the important thing is to learn how to pursue it.
11. Is there a certificate at the end of the lab?
Yes, there is a certificate with the grade that the student gets at the end of the lab.
12. Is the specialization or final degree of the lab written?
There is a certificate at the end of the lab, the student’s name is written in full as the student wrote it on the application form (so the name should be written carefully and checked for accuracy), and the overall percentage of the student’s grade in the basic lab is also written, but the specialization is not written.
13. What are the specializations available in the lab?
The basics of scientific research are taught regardless of specialization, as they are suitable for all specializations.
14. Does the lab require specific specializations?
The lab does not require specific specializations for application, as the aim of the lab is to learn scientific research regardless of your specialization. Students from various backgrounds such as medicine, pharmacy, engineering, computer science, biotechnology, etc. can apply to the lab.
15. Does the lab require a specific age group?
No, but it is preferred that your age be between (16-60) for maximum benefit.
16. Can one enroll in the advanced lab directly without the basic lab?
No, the student must pass the basic lab with distinction to join the advanced lab.
17. What is the duration of the lab?
Approximately 8 months (3 months for the basic lab, 3 months for the advanced lab, and 2 months in between for the evaluation and eligibility to the advanced lab).
